UTSA Announces New Assistant Coach
The University of Texas at San Antonio announced this week that Adam Short will join its men's basketball program as an assistant coach, bringing a diverse résumé that spans multiple collegiate levels.
Short arrives after stints at Queens University of Charlotte, where he served as special teams coordinator and rebounding coordinator, helping the team secure an NCAA tournament berth.
His previous roles also include contributions at the University of Texas, where the staff captured the Big 12 Tournament championship and advanced to the Elite Eight, and at Ole Miss, where the defense ranked sixth in the SEC.
A Coaching Journey Across Divisions
Short began his career as a graduate assistant at Avila University before moving through NAIA, JUCO and Division II environments, eventually guiding 18 players to Division I competition and mentoring academic All‑Americans.
He has worked at Cowley College, Missouri State – West Plains, State Fair Community College, Central Missouri and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, accumulating experience that blends developmental theory with on‑court strategy.
Player Development Highlights
During his tenure at Ole Miss the team climbed to sixth in the SEC for defensive scoring, and at Texas his staff helped lead the program to a Big 12 Tournament title and an Elite Eight appearance. Notable players he has coached include Yoav Berman, Chris Ashby and Carson Schwieger, each of whom have progressed to professional opportunities.
Beyond the court, Short holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in Organizational Development, reflecting a commitment to scholarly and administrative growth.
