The University of West Florida’s football team is gearing up for a landmark moment: its inaugural season in NCAA Division I, a move that has generated both excitement and a clear set of expectations.
Head coach Kaleb Nobles, who has been associated with the program since its early days except for a brief offensive player development role at Clemson, has overseen the addition of 73 new players to the roster. He describes the influx as a deliberate effort to shape a team identity centered on accountability and continuous improvement.
Despite being projected to finish last in the United Athletic Conference, the Argos have established internal goals that prioritize execution and steady progress week by week, rather than external rankings.
Among the returning standouts, redshirt junior running back TJ Lane returns as the top offensive weapon after posting a team‑high 869 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, while redshirt senior tight end Jake Robinette and senior defensive lineman Eli Webb remain key contributors.
Defensively, the unit will need to rebuild, as only two of the eleven players who recorded more than 20 tackles a year ago are back, prompting the coaching staff to rely on newcomers and develop depth across the line.
The program’s recent history includes just one losing season in nine years at the Division II level and six consecutive final Top 25 rankings, providing a foundation of resilience as the team navigates this new challenge.
