Valparaiso University’s football program is entering its second year under head coach Waddle, a tenure marked by a deliberate focus on player development and system refinement.
The offense will be anchored by redshirt senior quarterback Rowan Keefe, who has started every game for four consecutive seasons and brings a wealth of experience to the field.
Adding to the backfield, transfer quarterback Noah Ehrlich, a 2025 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year, returns to the program after a successful stint at the FBS level.
The offensive line brings back starters Justin Hemmersbach, Noah Kline and Brendan McIlvenna, while newcomers Mason Knoch and Cooper Bothwell provide fresh competition.
Defensive Line Strength
Defensively, the line features returning redshirt senior Alex Goworowski, who started 11 games last season, alongside redshirt juniors Antony Morris and Gabriel Batres.
The linebackers corps is fully healthy, with redshirt junior Max Samuel and redshirt sophomore Anthony Feltrinelli back after previous injuries.
In the secondary, Preseason All‑PFL honoree Nic Lendino and senior O.C. Nurse return at cornerback, while redshirt sophomore Wyatt Little adds depth at safety.
Special teams will rely on long snapper Hayden Hourany and punter Will Orlando, and Gundy’s recent Phil Steele Preseason First Team All‑PFL recognition highlights his impact on returns.
Coaching Continuity and New Faces
Coaching continuity is a cornerstone, with returning coordinators Reed Florence, Zach Feltrop and RJ Ghilarducci, complemented by new running backs coach Weston Bridges.
The campaign kicks off Saturday at Brown Field against Lawrence Tech, a matchup that will test the newly forged systems and set the tone for the season.
