Shane van Gisbergen captured the NASCAR Cup Series victory at Sonoma Raceway, extending his dominance on road and street circuits. The win marked his second triumph of the season and his eighth career victory on such venues.
He led 74 of the final 83 laps, a display of control that left the competition chasing and cemented his status as the winningest active driver on road and street courses.
A Surprising Turn at Sonoma
Chase Briscoe followed in second place, finishing just 0.357 seconds behind van Gisbergen, while Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five.
The In‑Season Challenge produced its share of drama, with Tyler Reddick falling four laps down in 36th after a power‑steering failure and Alex Bowman advancing despite missing four races because of vertigo.
Denny Hamlin also moved forward in the standings despite a 26th‑place finish, avenging a first‑round upset suffered by Ty Dillon the previous year, and NASCAR will head to Chicagoland Speedway on July 5 for its next event.
