A Strategic Battle at Sonoma
Shane van Gisbergen claimed victory in the Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 at Sonoma Raceway, his second win on the California road course and the sixth of his NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series career. He controlled the event from the pole, guiding the field for 66 of the 79 laps.
The win was built on a masterful fuel strategy. While many rivals pitted for fresh tires, van Gisbergen conserved enough fuel to stay ahead, even as the race featured eight lead changes among six drivers and four caution periods that shuffled the order.
Connor Zilisch, starting deep in the field, fought his way forward twice to finish second. His late‑stage charge forced van Gisbergen to defend aggressively in the final stage, which ran caution‑free for 30 laps.
JR Motorsports extended its streak of having at least one car in the top‑10 to 76 consecutive races, underscoring the team’s consistent performance. Brent Crews finished third, a result that lifted him into a Chase‑eligible position.
Viking Motorsports celebrated a double top‑five finish as both Anthony Alfredo and Parker Retzlaff placed inside the top five, highlighting the team’s strong weekend.
Series leader Justin Allgaier, who finished 26th, still holds a 207‑point advantage over second‑place Jesse Love, a margin that could prove decisive as the championship unfolds.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will next travel to Chicagoland Speedway on July 4, where the stakes will be even higher for drivers eyeing the playoffs.
