A Strategic Masterclass at Sonoma
Shane van Gisbergen claimed his second straight victory in the NASCAR Cup Series at Sonoma Raceway, mastering the 110‑lap Toyota/Save Mart 350 with a blend of speed and strategy.
He led 74 of the 110 laps and seized the lead for the final time on lap 88, pulling away just enough to hold off a late charge from Chase Briscoe.
Briscoe, driving the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, applied heavy pressure in the closing stages but could not break van Gisbergen’s defense, finishing second.
Championship Ripple Effects
Ty Gibbs, the pole sitter, recovered from an early pit strategy disadvantage to finish third, having dominated the opening two stages with wins in Stage 1 and a strong run in Stage 2.
The top five was completed by Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell, while the race also featured a weekend sweep for van Gisbergen, who had captured the Xfinity Series event on Saturday.
A mechanical issue sidelined Tyler Reddick for much of the event, potentially altering the points landscape, and the victory tightens the championship battle as the series moves on to Chicagoland Speedway.
