The basketball court in Harrison village was recently targeted by vandals, who covered the playing surface with obscene markings that rendered it unusable.
Village officials have called on parents and guardians to instill a sense of responsibility in youngsters, emphasizing that public property must be treated with care to avoid further degradation.
Police Investigation Underway
Harrison Police Department is combing through security footage from nearby cameras, while also planning to boost patrols across local parks to deter similar acts of destruction.
Investigators have identified potential leads regarding the individuals responsible, though no arrests have been made public at this time.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the importance of community spaces, with local schools and youth programs urging students to respect shared facilities and report any suspicious activity.
Repair crews are scheduled to begin resurfacing the court next week, a move that officials hope will restore a vital gathering place for residents and reinforce the village’s commitment to maintaining safe, welcoming public areas.
