Vanderbilt University’s 2027 football recruiting class has added a new piece to its puzzle: three‑star wide receiver Davion Crumitie, who announced his commitment on Tuesday.
Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, Crumitie is listed as the No. 39 prospect in the state and the No. 31 overall athlete in the national rankings for the class, underscoring the significance of his decision.
Background and Athletic Profile
During his junior year at Rickards High School, Crumitie caught 52 passes for 776 yards and two touchdowns, while also serving as a defensive back who recorded 26 tackles and an interception.
Beyond football, he is a three‑time 3A Florida track champion in the 100‑meter and 200‑meter dashes, a testament to his straight‑line speed that could translate into big‑play ability on the gridiron.
Fit Within Vanderbilt’s Offense
At 5‑foot‑10 and 150 pounds, he brings a compact, speed‑driven skill set that has already drawn comparisons to former Commodores receiver Tre Richardson, who posted 46 catches for 806 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2025 season.
Vanderbilt’s offense has a history of using quick, agile receivers to stretch defenses, a strategy that aligns with Crumitie’s profile and could see him used in similar roles to Richardson.
Recruiting Class Impact
The commitment marks the eighth verbal pledge in the Commodores’ 2027 class, a group that currently sits at No. 37 in the national recruiting rankings.
Vanderbilt’s staff, including head coach Clark Lea and offensive coordinator Tim Beck, were instrumental in the recruitment, with recruiter Alex Bailey playing a key role in keeping the Commodores on Crumitie’s radar.
The addition of Crumitie not only bolsters the depth chart but also signals Vanderbilt’s intent to maintain a dynamic, up‑tempo offense that leverages speed and versatility.
