Vanderbilt University’s football program has added a significant piece to its 2027 recruiting class with the verbal commitment of Levi McKenzie, a three-star safety out of Riverdale High School in Fort Myers, Florida.
A Versatile Prospect
McKenzie, listed at 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, is a multi-sport athlete who has excelled both on the track and the gridiron, highlighted by a recent state championship in the 400-meter dash.
Ranked as the No. 115 safety nationally and the No. 113 player in Florida, his speed and agility enable him to chase down receivers and make open-field tackles, while his experience at wide receiver and as a kick-return specialist adds versatility to the secondary.
Choosing the Commodores
He chose the Commodores over a trio of strong contenders — defending national champion Indiana, Louisville, and Houston — signaling the program’s growing appeal among top prospects.
The commitment brings Vanderbilt’s 2027 class to eleven pledges, a group that already features two four-star and nine three-star athletes, underscoring the coaching staff’s ability to attract talent across the Southeast.
Coaching Perspective
Head coach Clark Lea, now in his third season, praised McKenzie’s physicality and work ethic, noting that the recruit’s willingness to initiate contact will complement the existing core of players such as Dillon Davis and Omarii Sanders.
