Vanessa Phillips Bosshart Joins Coastal Carolina Women’s Soccer as Goalkeeper Coach

Former U.S. Youth National Team strategist brings two decades of expertise to the Chanticleers

Coastal Carolina University announced this week that Vanessa Phillips Bosshart will assume the role of goalkeeper coach for its women’s soccer team beginning with the 2026 campaign. The appointment was confirmed by the university’s athletic department and is part of a broader effort to strengthen the program’s defensive infrastructure.

Bosshart brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the Chanticleers, having guided goalkeepers at the collegiate level across several conferences and contributed to the development of elite youth talent in the United States.

A Proven Track Record

Since September 2024 she has served as a goalkeeper coach with the United States Women’s Youth National Team, a role that included guiding the side at the 2025 FIFA U‑17 Women’s World Cup. In that capacity she helped shape the next generation of keepers who are now emerging on the international stage.

Prior to that, Bosshart held the position of Director of Goalkeeping for the Wilmington Hammerheads from 2022 onward, where she oversaw a comprehensive training curriculum and worked closely with semi‑professional clubs such as Port City FC and Hartford City FC.

Her coaching résumé also includes tenures at the University of Connecticut, Murray State University, the University of Arkansas and the University of North Florida, where she contributed to back‑to‑back regular‑season conference championships at Murray State.

Before transitioning to coaching, Bosshart enjoyed a professional playing career with the Ottawa Fury and was a member of the U.S. Under‑21 National Team player pool. She earned All‑SEC Second Team honors twice and was named an NSCAA Academic All‑American at the University of Tennessee.

Athletic Director Pete Cuadrado praised the hire, stating that Bosshart’s blend of playing pedigree, academic excellence and international coaching experience will elevate the program’s competitiveness and player development.

The university hopes the new coaching addition will translate into stronger performances on the field and greater visibility for the women’s soccer program as it continues to grow.
