A seasoned coach brings decades of experience to the Bison program

Varrell Eddie has been appointed head coach of the Baruch College Women's Basketball team, ushering in a new era for the Bison program and signaling the university's commitment to elevating its women's athletics.

With more than a decade of coaching experience across high school and collegiate settings in New York City, Eddie combines a deep understanding of player development with a strategic vision for program growth.

A Legacy of Leadership

His career includes a five‑year tenure as head coach at Purchase College, where he transformed a modest program into a competitive force, and a two‑year stint leading the City College of New York from 2022‑23 through 2023‑24.

Prior to that, Eddie spent seven seasons at Purchase College, rising from assistant to head coach, and earlier revitalized the girls' basketball program at Samuel Gompers High School in the Bronx from 2014‑16.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Eddie also served as Dean of Students at University Prep High School and New Visions High School for the Humanities II, experiences that sharpened his focus on mentorship and academic integration.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from SUNY Cortland (2009) and a master's in Sports Business Management from Manhattanville College (2012), credentials that blend athletic insight with administrative acumen.

A Vision for the Future

Eddie’s vision centers on cultivating a culture of excellence both on and off the court, emphasizing academic achievement, community engagement, and competitive play.

He plans to leverage the college's urban location, tapping into local talent pools in the Bronx and broader New York area, while fostering partnerships with community organizations.

Rooted in New York

Based in Manhattan, Baruch College benefits from proximity to a dense network of high schools and community centers, giving Eddie a rich recruiting ground across the city's boroughs. The appointment aligns with the college's broader mission to enrich student life through athletics and places the Bison program within a vibrant network of New York institutions, including nearby City College of New York and Purchase College.
