At Pius XI High School, Nwagbaraocha progressed from junior varsity to a varsity starter in her junior year, culminating in a senior season that delivered an undefeated record and a 2015 state championship — a feat that still resonates in the school’s basketball lore.

A recruitment visit to William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, opened a new chapter. There, coach Willie Scott became more than a tactical guide; he acted as a mentor and father figure, convincing her that a professional future overseas was within reach.
