VCU Claims Fifth Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship in Thrilling Finale

Rams outlast Rhode Island 9-1 after back-to-back battles, securing NCAA Regional berth

Virginia Commonwealth University captured its fifth Atlantic 10 baseball championship on Sunday, beating Rhode Island 9-1 at Capital One Park in Washington, D.C.

The triumph capped a grueling weekend in which the Rams had to win two consecutive games, the second of which went 18-16 into extra innings the night before.

Fourth‑inning fireworks

VCU exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, a rally sparked by Alec Warden’s single that plated Nate Kirkpatrick and Nick Flores, followed by Trent Adelman’s homer that drove in Warden.

Jacob Lee, named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, added an RBI single, while Warden and Adelman each contributed two RBIs, finishing 3-for-4 and 3-for-5 respectively.

On the mound, VCU deployed three pitchers who limited Rhode Island to one earned run on eight hits; starter Fenix DiGiacomo tossed a hitless inning, Dawson Newman earned the win with three scoreless frames, and Cooper Campbell recorded his third save of the season.

The All-Championship Team also featured standouts from George Mason and Saint Joseph’s, underscoring the depth of talent in the conference as VCU prepares for NCAA Regional action.
