Former University of Florida basketball standouts Vernon Maxwell and Andrew Moten were announced this week as members of the 2026 UF Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring their pivotal roles in the program's early modern era.
Maxwell stands as the school's all‑time leading scorer with 2,450 points accumulated over 130 games. His junior season remains the most prolific in Gators history, during which he tallied 738 points, and he later added two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets, underscoring the professional legacy of his college performance.
The M&M Duo's Legacy
Together they formed the nickname “M&M” and led Florida to its first two NCAA tournament appearances in 1987 and 1988, establishing a foundation that would shape the program's future competitiveness.
Moten, the fourth‑highest scorer in school history with 1,930 points, earned a place on the 1985 All‑SEC Tournament Team in his sophomore year and continues to rank among the top five in field goals, games started and assists for the Gators.
Both players learned of their induction during a video call with head coach Todd Golden, a moment that highlighted the program's connection across generations. The Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on October 9, where they will be celebrated alongside other inductees.
Their enshrinement not only celebrates individual excellence but also reflects the early growth of Florida's basketball brand, a story that still resonates with fans across the state and beyond.
