Veronica Sheffey has been named a graduate assistant coach for the SIUE women's basketball team for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a blend of elite playing experience and leadership to the program.
A native of Woodinville, Washington, Sheffey honed her game at Texas Christian University, where she contributed to a run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament and posted career averages of 4.1 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.
She later transferred to San Diego State University, where she led the team in scoring during the 2024‑25 season with an 11.2‑point per game average and earned Mountain West Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
A Family Legacy of Competition
Sheffey's father, Tyrone Sheffey, and brother, Jaden Sheffey, both played college football at the University of Washington, while her grandmother, Gloria Mercer, starred on the basketball court for Seattle, creating a household steeped in athletic achievement.
