Veteran Austrian Forward Anna Meixner Returns to Brynas on Two-Year Deal

The captain’s homecoming adds experience and leadership to Sweden’s top women’s hockey club.

Anna Meixner, a veteran forward and longtime captain of Austria’s national ice‑hockey team, has agreed to a two‑year contract that will see her return to Sweden’s Brynas.

A Homecoming After North American Stint

Meixner first wore the Brynas jersey for four seasons before heading to North America, where she most recently suited up for the Ottawa Charge and the Vancouver Goldeneyes, posting six points in 30 games last year. Her journey included a midseason trade that sent her to Vancouver, and she was originally selected 32nd overall in the sixth round of the 2024 draft by the Charge.

Before joining the Professional Women’s Hockey League, she earned the distinction of being named the Swedish Women’s Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player and Forward of the Year in 2023, and she has represented Austria at twelve World Championship tournaments.

Leadership Expected to Elevate the Squad

General manager Thomas Nilsson praised Meixner’s blend of skill and leadership, saying her return is “a major boost for the club’s ambitions on and off the ice.” Nilsson added that her experience will be crucial as Brynas aims to contend for the league title.

The move also brings a familiar face back to a club where she already knows the culture and fan base, a factor that Nilsson believes will resonate strongly with supporters.

Meixner’s signing underscores the growing appeal of Swedish women’s hockey, drawing top talent back to the country’s elite leagues while continuing to showcase Austrian excellence on the international stage.
