Troy University announced this week that Kyle Roane, a coach with more than three decades of experience, has been added to its basketball coaching staff as an assistant. The hiring underscores the program’s intent to deepen its tactical expertise and strengthen player development.
A career built on mentorship and growth
Roane’s most recent role was associate head coach at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he played a key part in shaping award‑winning athletes and guiding the Lions to a successful season that included a first‑round bye in the Southland Conference Tournament. His tenure there highlighted his ability to blend analytical insight with relationship‑building.
Before Southeastern Louisiana, Roane contributed to the programs at Southern Miss, Jones Junior College, and a variety of high schools across the region. Each stop added layers of practical knowledge that he now brings to Troy’s roster.
Roane earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Miss in 1995 and a master’s degree two years later, foundations that have informed his coaching philosophy and leadership style.
Leadership welcomes the new addition
Head coach Adam Howard praised Roane’s coaching abilities and character, stating that his extensive experience will be instrumental in advancing the Tigers’ competitive edge. The endorsement reflects a broader confidence in Roane’s capacity to mentor both players and staff.
The move also aligns with a network of seasoned professionals connected to the program, including Nick Caldwell, Sam Hines Jr., Jeremy Elyzee, Jay Ladner, and Doc Sadler, whose own contributions have helped shape the university’s basketball environment.
With Roane on board, Troy University aims to leverage his strategic acumen and relational approach to cultivate talent, enhance game preparation, and sustain momentum in upcoming seasons.
