A championship pedigree finds a new home
Elon University has appointed Steve Robinson, a coach with more than four decades of Division I experience, as special assistant to head coach Billy Taylor. Robinson’s extensive background includes stints at some of the nation’s most storied programs, where he has amassed a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success.
Robinson’s career is marked by 31 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight Final Four runs, underscoring his ability to guide teams deep into the national spotlight. He has captured three national championships and, most recently, helped the Arizona Wildcats secure four conference titles during his tenure from 2021 through 2025.
Prior to his time at Arizona, Robinson spent 18 seasons as an assistant under Roy Williams at the University of North Carolina, contributing to three additional championships and reinforcing his reputation as a master recruiter and strategist.
His influence extends beyond the bench, having coached or recruited more than 60 NBA players, among them Paul Pierce, Danny Green, Harrison Barnes, Ty Lawson, Raymond Felton and Caleb Love. This pipeline of talent highlights his capacity to develop future professionals.
A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Robinson began his coaching journey at Radford University and has been inducted into the halls of fame at William Fleming High School, Ferrum Junior College and Radford University, reflecting a lifelong dedication to the sport.
