The University of Florida's baseball program announced Tuesday that Todd Butler will join its coaching staff as an assistant, bringing more than three decades of collegiate experience to Gainesville.
A career built on winning
Butler's journey includes head‑coaching stints at Wichita State and McNeese State, as well as assistant roles at several prominent programs. His teams have captured multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, College World Series berths, and he has coached 39 All‑Americans while guiding 10 top‑10 recruiting classes.
Recent triumph at Oklahoma
From 2024 to 2026 Butler served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Oklahoma, where his contributions helped the Sooners post a 121‑66 record and capture the 2026 College World Series championship.
A prolific recruiter and developer
Butler's impact extends beyond the diamond; his units have led the SEC in triples and stolen bases, and he has overseen 179 MLB Draft selections, including 46 players who reached the major leagues. His programs have appeared in six College World Series, seven Super Regionals and 19 NCAA Tournaments.
From player to coach
A former player at McNeese and Oklahoma, Butler held the OU single‑season stolen‑base record with 46 in 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from McNeese in 1991, laying a foundation for his coaching philosophy.
What the hire means for Florida
The addition of Butler aligns with head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's vision and athletic director Scott Stricklin's strategic goals. Together they aim to elevate the Gators into national title contention, leveraging Butler's proven ability to develop talent and sustain winning cultures.
