Jordan Oesterle, a defenseman who spent 12 years navigating the professional ranks, confirmed his retirement on Monday, bringing to a close a career that blended grit on the ice with leadership in the locker room.
A decade‑long odyssey across the NHL
From his early days as an undrafted prospect who signed with the Edmonton Oilers at the tail end of the 2013‑14 season, Oesterle rose to become a regular presence on the blue lines of eight different NHL franchises, including the Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Nashville Predators.
Over 409 NHL appearances he accumulated 96 points, a blend of 23 goals and 73 assists, while also representing the United States at the 2018 World Championship, where he helped secure a bronze medal.
The 2023‑24 campaign marked his most recent chapter with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he appeared in 69 games and contributed 46 points through 14 goals and 32 assists, before the expiration of a two‑year, $1.55 million contract that had been originally inked with the Boston Bruins.
