A Promising Prospect
Victor Plante, a freshman forward for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, has received an invitation to the 2026 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp and World Junior Summer Showcase, scheduled to run from July 26 through August 1 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario.
The camp brings together elite junior teams from Canada, Finland and Sweden, serving as a critical stepping stone toward the 2027 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, and Plante will join a select group of prospects vying for a spot on the final roster.
Drafted Destiny
Plante’s selection follows his recent selection by the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings in the second round, 47th overall, a milestone that underscores the confidence the organization has in his development.
Over the past two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program, Plante posted 21 goals and 48 points in 57 games, and he contributed a goal and four assists in five games at the IIHF Under‑18 Men’s World Championship, delivering a point per game average that highlighted his offensive instincts.
Family Legacy
He is the younger brother of current Bulldogs prospects Zam and Max Plante, both of whom have also been drafted into the NHL, and the son of former UMD All‑American and NHL veteran Derek Plante, a lineage that adds a compelling narrative to his rising career.
The Plante family’s deep roots in Minnesota hockey provide a supportive backdrop, with father Derek’s professional experience and brotherly mentorship shaping Victor’s approach to the game, while his recent draft status with the Detroit Red Wings adds a professional dimension to his development path.
With the camp’s competitive environment and the presence of top talent from across North America and Europe, coaches expect Plante to showcase the blend of speed, skill and hockey sense that has defined his rise, potentially positioning him for the next chapter in his pursuit of a world‑junior title.
