Victoria Pena, an assistant coach for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's basketball team, has been selected for the NCAA Women Coaches Academy Class #56 and awarded a scholarship to attend the program.
The academy, jointly hosted by WeCOACH and the NCAA, focuses on leadership development and coaching excellence, offering participants a curriculum that includes guest speakers, breakout sessions, and extensive networking opportunities.
Since its launch in 2003, the academy has supported over 2,500 coaches, aiming to empower and retain women in collegiate athletics while honoring pioneers such as Billie Jean King, Lorene Ramsey, Tina Sloan Green, Barbara Stevens and Kathy Aspaas.
Empowering Women in Coaching
Pena and her classmates departed the academy feeling renewed, reminded of the calling that brought them to the sidelines, and eager to apply new insights within their programs back at UTRGV and beyond.
