Texas women’s basketball announced the hiring of Victoria Vivians, a former Mississippi State star and WNBA veteran, to join head coach Vic Schaefer’s coaching staff. The move marks a homecoming for Vivians, who previously served as an assistant coach and director of scouting for her alma mater during the 2024–25 season.
A Full‑Circle Reunion
Vivians played at Mississippi State from 2014 to 2018, earning First Team All‑American honors and being named to the All‑SEC team four times. She helped the Bulldogs reach two national championship games in 2017 and 2018, compiling a career average of 17.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. After going undrafted in the WNBA, she built a professional résumé that includes 179 games played and 6.6 points per game over 20.8 minutes per contest.
Her coaching journey began as an assistant at Mississippi State, where she also directed scouting efforts. In the upcoming season she transitioned to a similar role at Texas, bringing a blend of collegiate and professional experience that Schaefer believes will elevate the program’s competitive edge.
Replacing Sydney Carter and Looking Ahead
Vivians will replace Sydney Carter, a former Texas A&M assistant coach who also played under Schaefer. In a statement, Vivians described the appointment as a full‑circle moment, expressing excitement about working with Schaefer again and contributing to a culture built around championships.
The Longhorns are targeting another Final Four appearance in 2026, bolstered by the return of All‑American forward Madison Booker. With Vivians’ expertise in both college and pro basketball, the staff hopes to sharpen player development and sustain the program’s championship aspirations.
Championship Culture Revamp
Texas officials say the addition of Vivians is part of a broader strategy to reinforce a winning mindset across the roster. By integrating her scouting insight and professional‑level work ethic, the program aims to produce student‑athletes who excel not only on the court but also in life after college.
