Villanova University’s women’s basketball program has announced the addition of Austrian forward Janet Oriakhi to its 2026‑27 roster, a move that promises to deepen the team’s frontcourt and add depth for the upcoming season.
Oriakhi, a 21‑year‑old native of Graz, Austria, spent the 2025‑26 season in the Austrian Women’s Basketball Bundesliga, appearing in 18 games and posting averages of 7.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest while primarily playing the center position.
The Wildcats already boast a talented group of forwards, including returning standouts Brynn McCurry, Brooke Bender and Anna Foley, who have each carved out significant roles in the program’s recent successes.
A Versatile Option Off the Bench
Coaches say Oriakhi’s skill set offers a versatile option off the bench, allowing the staff to experiment with lineups and maintain intensity throughout the grueling schedule that lies ahead.
Season Opener in Rome
The team is slated to open the season in Rome, Italy, where they will face Notre Dame on November 1, 2026, marking the first time the Wildcats have begun a campaign on European soil.
Despite having logged professional minutes abroad, Oriakhi retains four years of NCAA eligibility, a fact that excites the coaching staff as they look to blend her international experience with the program’s home‑grown talent.
