Maddie Sears records first shutout as Gemma Lysaght leads scoring spree

Villanova’s field hockey squad traveled to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, where they faced LaSalle at the Proving Grounds and walked away with a 7‑0 victory that underscored their early‑season form.

The scoring opened quickly when Molly Zimmerman earned a penalty corner, and Maeve Boston slipped a perfect pass to Gemma Lysaght, who struck for the first goal of the season.

Lysaght would add three more markers, including a strike from a feed by Erin Mitchell in the fourth quarter, while Ava Borkowski and Esmee De Lange contributed to the onslaught.

Between the bursts of offense, senior goalkeeper Maddi Sears stood tall, turning away all three shots she faced in the third quarter and preserving a clean sheet that marked her first shutout of the year.

The second half saw Shannon Arber net her first goal of the campaign, and she later assisted Emma Foscarini for her maiden collegiate point, pushing the lead to 6‑0 before the final whistle.

Villanova’s next test arrives on Friday, September 4, when they head to State College to meet Penn State at 3:00 p.m., a match that will test the momentum built at the Proving Grounds.
