A New Era for Villanova Field Hockey
Villanova’s field hockey program will soon call Radnor its permanent home, as the university prepares to open the new Cabrini Campus in the fall of 2026. The move is tied to the official inauguration of the campus, marking a milestone for the university’s athletic facilities.
The new field will feature a state‑of‑the‑art turf surface, an advanced irrigation system, prominent Villanova branding, modern bleachers and a refreshed press box. These upgrades are designed to provide a premier competition environment for student‑athletes.
University officials describe the project as transformational, noting that the upgraded venue will enhance recruitment, athlete development and the team’s ability to contend at the highest level. The facility is expected to attract top talent and support the program’s growth.
Villanova acquired the 112‑acre Cabrini Campus in 2024 and has spent the past two years renovating the site. The campus will also host a robust academic program, as well as a dynamic mix of residential, dining and recreational experiences.
The field hockey program’s pedigree includes four All‑Americans, ten inductees into the Villanova Varsity Club Hall of Fame and a Hall of Fame inductee in four of the last six classes. In 2022 the team celebrated its 50th anniversary as a varsity sport and maintains an all‑time .567 winning percentage in home games.
Recent on‑field success includes qualification for the BIG EAST Championship in two of the past three seasons. With the new facility, the Wildcats are poised to build on this momentum and compete more effectively on a national stage.
Eric Roedl and Joanie Milhous, key figures in the university’s athletics administration, have been instrumental in guiding the project from conception to completion, ensuring that the new home meets the program’s long‑term aspirations.
