Virginia Basketball has secured its third transfer commitment of the offseason, announcing the addition of former Saint Louis forward Kalu Anya. The move comes as the Cavaliers reshape their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Anya, who redshirted last year, brings a blend of experience and defensive versatility. At Saint Louis he posted 6.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, and his numbers improved to 9.6 points and 7.4 rebounds at Brown, where he also shot just 25 percent from three‑point range.
A Defensive Boost for the Cavaliers
Coaches expect Anya to make an immediate impact on the defensive end, providing rebounding toughness and interior presence. While he is not a prolific three‑point shooter, his ability to protect the glass should help Virginia improve its interior defense and second‑chance opportunities.
The Cavaliers will return three starters — Sam Lewis, Thijs de Ridder and Johann Grunloh — who will anchor the lineup. At the guard position, the team may lean on either Chanace Mallory or Arkansas State transfer Christian Harmon to fill the remaining spot, adding depth to the backcourt.
