A Late‑Inning Collapse
The Virginia Cavaliers entered the ACC Baseball Championship quarterfinals with a 9‑5 advantage over the No. 3 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but the lead evaporated in the seventh inning as Georgia Tech erupted for eleven of the final twelve runs, sealing a 16‑10 victory.
Early in the contest, Carson Kerce opened the scoring with a solo home run, and Antonio Perrotta answered for Virginia with a two‑run homer. Harrison Didawick added a home run and a double, while Joe Tiroly, Eric Becker and the rest of the lineup combined for nine hits and six RBIs, driving in four extra‑base hits.
Georgia Tech’s rally began in the bottom of the fourth when they plated three runs, and the momentum shifted dramatically in the seventh inning. Vahn Lackey’s home run trimmed the deficit, but a seven‑run burst put the Yellow Jackets ahead for good. The Cavaliers managed only one more run in the top of the eighth before the final four runs were added by Georgia Tech in the bottom of the same inning.
Despite the loss, Virginia’s performance set several franchise marks. All nine Cavalier starters scored, and Harrison Didawick extended his career totals to 198 runs and 181 RBIs, positioning him near the program’s all‑time leaders. The 10 runs scored remain the most by the Cavaliers in an ACC Tournament game since 2024, and the team now looks ahead to the 2026 NCAA Tournament selection show, scheduled for May 25 on ESPN2.
