Hokies Chase Norcross Standout in 2027 Recruiting Race
Virginia Tech’s football program, led by head coach James Franklin, is zeroing in on three‑star linebacker CJ Ohuabunaw of Norcross, Georgia, as a cornerstone of the 2027 recruiting class. Franklin and his staff have highlighted the prospect’s blend of size, speed and production, noting that his junior campaign yielded 124 tackles, eight for a loss and two sacks.
The Hokies hosted the Norcross native on an official visit, a move that underscored mutual interest and placed Virginia Tech at the forefront of his considerations. While the coaching staff, including associate head coach Brent Key and defensive coordinator Brent Pry, emphasized the need for a reliable interior defender, the competition for Ohuabunaw remains fierce.
Florida State, Kansas and Louisville have all entered the fray, each vying to sway the talented defender toward their respective programs. At present, the Hokies have yet to secure a linebacker commitment for the 2027 cycle, making Ohuabunaw a priority target as the staff works to shape a defense that can compete nationally.
The recruitment battle reflects a broader strategy within the program to rebuild a unit that has lacked depth in recent seasons. By securing a player of Ohuabunaw’s caliber, Virginia Tech aims to signal a renewed focus on defensive excellence and to attract further talent to the Blacksburg campus.
