Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball program announced its 2026‑27 non‑conference schedule this week, a 13‑game lineup that blends home‑court comforts with challenging road trips.
A packed slate ahead
Coach Megan Duffy said the schedule was designed to test the team early, opening with a home game against NC Central before a preseason exhibition against Maryland that marks the first meeting with the Terrapins since 2014.
The Hokies will play 10 of those contests at Carilion Clinic Court in Cassell Coliseum, giving the fans a chance to rally behind the team in a venue that has become a familiar battleground.
The early slate includes a road test at Delaware on November 4, a meeting with James Madison on November 8, and a showdown with VCU on November 12, each opponent bringing a different style of play.
A highlight of the non‑conference calendar is the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Florida, where Virginia Tech will face UT Martin, Alcorn State and Michigan State over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Later in December the team will meet Tennessee in the SEC/ACC Challenge at Cassell Coliseum, a game that pits the Hokies against a Volunteers squad that finished the previous season with a 24‑9 record and a second‑round NCAA Tournament appearance.
The schedule wraps up with a four‑game home stretch in December, featuring Appalachian State, Campbell, Radford and the College of Charleston, giving the seniors a chance to finish strong in front of their home crowd.
Virginia Tech opened the season with a 72‑51 win over UNC Greensboro in November 2023, extending its streak of victories over the Spartans and underscoring the team’s early‑season momentum.
