Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball program has unveiled its 2026‑27 non‑conference schedule, a 13‑game lineup that blends home‑court dominance with a handful of road tests and a marquee showdown against a powerhouse SEC opponent.
Head coach Megan Duffy, who guided the Hokies to a 23‑win season and an NCAA Tournament berth last year, said the schedule reflects the team’s ambition to build momentum early while testing itself against diverse competition.
Opening the season
The campaign begins with an exhibition clash against Maryland on October 19, marking the first meeting between the programs since March 2, 2014. The following week, on November 2, Virginia Tech opens its official season at home against NC Central.
Early home battles
Delaware arrives in Blacksburg on November 4, renewing a rivalry that dates back to 1985, while a week later the Hokies host James Madison, reigniting an in‑state rivalry that always draws a packed crowd at Cassell Coliseum.
The team then travels to face VCU on November 12 and La Salle on November 15, renewing Atlantic 10 rivalries that promise competitive matchups on the road.
Emerald Coast Classic and beyond
From November 23‑24, Virginia Tech will compete in the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Florida, opening against UT Martin and potentially meeting Alcorn State or Michigan State the next day. After the tournament, the Hokies return home to host UNC Greensboro on November 29.
The non‑conference slate wraps up with a marquee ACC‑SEC Challenge game against Tennessee on December 3, a matchup that will test the Hokies against a perennial national contender. The final stretch features four additional home games against App State (December 9), Campbell (December 13), Radford (December 21) and College of Charleston (December 28), rounding out a busy December.
Virginia Tech enters the season riding the momentum of a strong 2025‑26 campaign that included a WNIT appearance, and the coach expressed confidence that the schedule will provide the right mix of challenges and opportunities to climb higher in the national rankings.
