Virginia Tech is gearing up for the 2026 season with a revamped offensive line that blends proven returnees and promising newcomers.
The unit’s performance last year was marked by mixed results, as several linemen posted solid grades from Pro Football Focus while others were limited by injury or inexperience.
Projected Starting Five
Coaches have penciled in Logan Howland at left tackle, Brody Meadows at left guard, Kyle Altuner at center, Montavious Cunningham at right guard and Johnny Garrett at right tackle.
Howland arrives from Oklahoma, bringing a fresh perspective after a transfer, while Garrett earned a 49.2 PFF grade and allowed just two sacks in 2025.
Altuner, the center, logged every snap in 2025 and posted a 58.5 grade, surrendering only a single sack, underscoring his reliability at the middle of the line.
Cunningham, who started four games at right guard, earned a 55.0 PFF season grade, and will look to cement his role after a year of limited action.
Meadows, a redshirt junior who missed the entire 2025 campaign due to injury, logged 328 snaps in 2024 and is expected to rebound if he returns to full health.
Key Questions
The biggest uncertainties revolve around health and experience. Meadows and Howland must prove they can bounce back from injuries, while Cunningham’s durability at the ACC level remains untested.
Additionally, the line as a whole managed only 29 combined starts in 2025, meaning the group lacks extensive live‑game reps heading into the new season.
If the unit can stay healthy and build chemistry, the Hokies could see a marked improvement in pass protection and run blocking, positioning the offense for a more balanced attack.
