USA TODAY recently ran a massive simulation of 100 seasons of College Football 27, the popular college football video game that lets fans explore alternate histories on the Xbox platform.
The exercise shows Ohio State emerging as the most successful program, capturing the virtual championship 22 times out of the hundred simulated seasons, and making the College Football Playoff 85 times while appearing in the title game 57 times.
Other programs that tasted victory include Miami with 13 titles, while Indiana, Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, SMU, Utah and Virginia each secured at least one championship.
Conference Landscape in the Simulations
The data also reveals that six SEC teams, five ACC teams and three Big 12 teams lifted the trophy, while Boise State represented the Pac‑12 and Notre Dame stood out as the only independent to break through.
The simulation’s pattern mirrors real‑world power structures, yet it also highlights surprising outcomes such as Nebraska’s occasional title runs within the Big Ten.
Jordan Mendoza and James Franklin noted that last season’s simulation had Penn State as the overwhelming winner, but that forecast failed to translate into real‑life success.
