A new hub for Gulfton’s youth
A bright green field now sits at the heart of Gulfton, a neighborhood on Houston’s southwest side, where a new public soccer park has officially opened its gates to anyone who wants to play.
The facility boasts two miniature pitches built to professional standards, complete with marked boundaries, goalposts and a durable surface designed for year‑round use.
Managed by the nonprofit Houston reVision, the space will host regular clinics, tournaments and coaching sessions, as well as training for referees, turning the park into a hub of activity for local youth.
Charles Rotramel, chief executive of Houston reVision, emphasized that the park is unlike anything else in the area, noting, “This facility is unique and open to the public.”
The design of the pitches draws on a footprint pioneered in Germany, adapting the concept to the dense urban environment of Gulfton while ensuring safety and accessibility.
A recent visit by ABC13’s Localish team captured the energy on the field, showcasing how the park is already shaping the lives of young participants.
Looking ahead
Organizers hope the park will become a model for other underserved communities, proving that sport can be a catalyst for broader social change.
