A Legendary Guest Returns
Former FC Porto and FC Barcelona goalkeeper Vítor Baía is set to return to Rhode Island this June, joining the festivities for the annual Day of Portugal celebration.
Parade and Torch Ceremony
Baía will march in the parade and take part in the ‘Torch of Portugalidade’ ceremony on June 7, a procession that highlights Portuguese heritage, unity and the American dream.
PUMA’s House of Portugal
Later that day he will visit PUMA’s House of Portugal at Waterplace Park Pavilion, a fan zone that will transform into a cultural hub during the build‑up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Parade Details
The Rhode Island Day of Portugal Parade will step off at 3 p.m. from the State House and wind through Smith Street Terrace, Canal Street, Memorial Boulevard and South Water Street before concluding at 195 District Park.
A Career of Triumphs
Throughout a distinguished career Baía collected 30 major trophies, 25 of them with Porto, including the UEFA Champions League and ten Primeira Liga titles, and contributed to Portugal’s 2002 World Cup campaign, earning 80 caps between 1990 and 2002.
His performances earned him the UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2003‑04 and the Best European Goalkeeper honor in 2004.
