A Shared Commitment to Excellence
Virginia Military Institute's athletic department has entered into a multi‑year agreement with Estes Express Lines, a prominent freight carrier, that will place the company's branding at the forefront of VMI basketball events.
The deal ensures that Estes logos appear prominently within the arena and on the digital feeds of ESPN+ broadcasts, granting the carrier extensive visibility across both live audiences and televised coverage.
Jamaal Walton, VMI's Director of Athletics, expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing that Estes' support aligns with the institute's broader community engagement and athletic ambitions.
The Hupp family, whose connection to VMI and Estes spans three generations, has been a cornerstone of both institutions; H. Thomas Hupp, Jr., a World War II veteran who helped build Estes Express Lines, is frequently cited as a living link between the school's principles and the company's culture.
Blake Brinkley, VMI's Assistant Athletic Director, noted that the collaboration reflects more than a financial arrangement, describing it as a convergence of shared values that resonate with students, alumni and fans alike.
College basketball has permitted on‑court sponsors since the 1995‑96 season, and this latest partnership illustrates how traditional institutions are adapting to contemporary marketing environments while preserving their historic identity.
