Virginia Military Institute’s basketball program received a clear roadmap this week as head coach Andrew Wilson unveiled the 2026‑27 schedule, a blend of home‑court battles and carefully plotted road excursions.
A balanced non‑conference slate
The Keydets will open the season at home against VU Lynchburg on November 2, then host seven of the twelve non‑conference games before turning their attention to a series of road tests that stretch from Texas to the Blue Ridge.
Wilson emphasized a schedule designed to keep travel within Virginia to a minimum while still offering competitive matchups against former Big South rivals Longwood and Gardner‑Webb, as well as Southern Indiana, who will visit the campus in November.
Road trips that test depth
In early November the team travels to Texas, facing SMU in Dallas before moving on to San Antonio to meet UTSA, a pair of games that will gauge the squad’s adaptability on the road.
The schedule also includes a December 21 showdown at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, followed by home contests against Richmond and a later meeting with Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina, before the season wraps on February 27 against the same opponent.
Southern Conference showdown and tournament
The regular season culminates with the Ingles Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, North Carolina, scheduled for March 5‑8, where VMI will join UNCG, ETSU and Tennessee Tech in a four‑day battle for conference supremacy.
