A New Timeline for VMI Football
The Virginia Military Institute announced that its traditional home‑and‑home series with Georgetown will now be played in 2035 and 2036, moving the originally planned 2030‑2031 dates back by five years. At the same time, the three‑game series with Richmond has been reshaped, with contests slated for August 2032, 2033 and 2035, two of them on the road for VMI.
Financial terms accompany the revised schedule. VMI will receive a guaranteed $25,000 for the 2032 home game against Richmond, followed by payouts of $50,000 and $75,000 for the 2033 and 2035 road contests. These figures reflect the ongoing negotiations that have shaped the program’s non‑conference slate.
Historical Context and Rivalries
The Georgetown series marks the eighth meeting between the Keydets and the Hoyas, a rivalry that last saw Georgetown triumph 21‑0 in 2004. Meanwhile, the long‑standing feud with Richmond stretches back to 1893, encompassing 91 contests in which Richmond holds a 46‑40‑5 edge and has won the last 13 meetings since 1997.
