Back on the court after the holiday
The Volunteers resumed practice following the July 4 holiday, marking the next phase of a summer offseason program that has already stretched just over a month. Coach Rick Barnes emphasized that the team will crank up the intensity as July unfolds, using the period to forge chemistry and resilience.
The upcoming non‑conference slate looms large, featuring contests against traditional powerhouses Purdue, Michigan State and Florida State. Barnes noted that these games will serve as a litmus test for a squad that is still integrating fresh talent.
Newcomers have taken to the grind with enthusiasm, embracing the demanding workouts and demonstrating solid teamwork. Their willingness to buy into the process has been a bright spot for the coaching staff.
Barnes expressed confidence in the progress made so far, highlighting the positive attitude of the newcomers and the cohesion developing within the group. He described the summer as a time when the team will be "forged in fire".
Looking ahead
With the schedule set and the roster taking shape, the Volunteers are poised to test themselves against elite competition. The intensity of the summer schedule is intended to prepare them for the rigors of SEC play and beyond.
