Voting for the lohud Flag Football Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital, will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13. The weekly honor, now in its latest edition, celebrates standout athletes from across the region who have made a marked impact on the field.
Standout Performances
Amelia Amenedo of Byram Hills has been a dual threat, compiling six receiving touchdowns and 542 yards of total offense over three games. Julissa Moore from Woodlands added a defensive highlight with an interception return for a touchdown while also contributing six receiving scores in four appearances. Riley New of Fox Lane displayed a complete skill set, throwing for 392 yards and nine touchdowns, adding 226 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Mya Ustares from Dobbs Ferry combined precision passing with a strong running game, posting 495 passing yards, six scores, 375 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while also forcing 26 flag pulls and intercepting four passes. Nina Vasquez of Tappan Zee capped her two‑game stretch with eight receptions for 132 yards, two touchdowns, 12 flag pulls and an interception.
The nominees’ performances illustrate the growing competitiveness of flag football in Section 1, where offensive versatility and defensive impact are increasingly valued. Coaches and teammates have praised each candidate for leadership and playmaking ability, noting that every athlete brings a unique contribution to their team’s success.
