Wake Forest Announces Free Youth Soccer Clinic in Honor of Coach Walt Chyzowych

The August 14 event at Spry Stadium will feature training with the 2026 roster and a $5,000 donation from Firewood Camps to the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund.

Wake Forest University will open its gates on August 14, 2024, for the annual Walt Chyzowych Soccer Clinic, a free day of drills and fun for boys and girls between six and thirteen.

A Legacy That Still Shapes the Game

The clinic pays tribute to Walt Chyzowych, who guided the Demon Deacons from 1986 to 1994 and left an indelible mark on both the program and American soccer.

Under his direction the team captured its first ACC Championship in 1989, and his influence extended beyond campus as he later served as the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Director of Coaching.

This year’s edition will give participants a rare chance to train alongside the incoming 2026 roster and the university’s coaching staff, getting a first‑hand glimpse of the next generation of Demon Deacons.

The event is made possible by Firewood Camps, which has contributed more than $5,000 to the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund, supporting youth development, scholarships and coaching education.

Spry Stadium will host the clinic, providing a familiar backdrop for the Demon Deacons’ home matches, and registration will be limited to the first 200 youngsters who sign up.

Looking Ahead

While the clinic celebrates the past, it also invests in the future, channeling resources into programs that keep the sport accessible and its coaching standards high.
