District 2 Championship Recap
Waldo Little League emerged victorious in a tightly fought District 2 8‑10 championship game, defeating Medomak Little League 7‑4 and securing a spot in the state tournament that begins Friday, July 17 at Gordon Field in Rockland.
The early going favored Waldo, which plated two runs in the first inning and added a single in the second to take a modest lead. Medomak’s offense was quiet at first, but the tide began to turn when Waldo’s starter Isaac Langan was pulled in the fourth, opening the door for a Medomak comeback.
A Turning Point in the Fifth
The fifth inning saw Medomak’s bats come alive. Garrett Sawyer led off with a single, followed by Davey Lee’s hit that moved the runners to second and third. Marriner Herring’s subsequent single loaded the bases, setting the stage for Michael Marr and Cole Ramsdell to draw walks that brought Sawyer and Lee across the plate, narrowing the gap to 7‑2.
Sixth‑Inning Surge
A sixth‑inning surge kept the pressure on Waldo. Consecutive singles by Ronin Michaud and Mark Bowen set up Coltin Warner’s walk that loaded the bases once more. Sawyer then ripped a double that drove in Michaud and Bowen, while Zach Weston’s own double threatened to tie the game before Lee’s hard‑hit grounder to shortstop sealed the final out.
Pitching Duels
Pitching was a decisive factor. Langan earned the win for Waldo, and a trio of relievers — Pomeroy and Larrabee — combined with him to strike out 13 Medomak batters. Meanwhile, Medomak’s pitchers surrendered seven runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning nine opponents.
Looking Ahead
With the district title in hand, Waldo will now travel to Rockland for the state championship tournament, where they will meet other regional champions in pursuit of the ultimate title. Key contributors for Waldo included Beckett Daly, who supplied a double and a single, and the aforementioned Langan, who anchored the mound effort. For Medomak, Garrett Sawyer topped the lineup with a double and two singles, and Weston added a double and a single of his own. The roster also featured players such as Hayden Palmer, Ashley Lee, Gage Lailer, Matthew Lee, Lucas Oliviera and others who helped shape the contest.
