A Milestone for Welsh Sport
Wales made a historic mark at the Commonwealth Games 2026, as the women's wheelchair basketball team recorded its first ever victory in the competition, beating India 16-1 in a dominant display.
Captain Anastasia Blease spearheaded the effort, scoring seven points, while teammates Molly Lander and Libi Phillips added five and four points respectively, sealing a convincing win.
The triumph comes on the back of a wildcard entry for both the men's and women's squads, who finished second in their respective qualifying finals before earning a place in the Glasgow tournament.
Wheelchair 3×3 basketball, making its debut in the Games, follows a compact format: a single 10‑minute period, a 12‑second shot clock and a half‑court layout with one hoop, with the first side to reach 21 points claiming victory.
Both Welsh squads are now set to face new opponents, with the men's lineup featuring Alex Wilson, Ben Johnson‑Rolfe, Dan May and Will Bishop, who will look to build on the momentum generated by the women's success.
