The Ole Miss sophomore eyes a historic return to the global stage

Walker Hooks Chases International Dream

Walker Hooks, a sophomore pitcher for the Ole Miss Rebels, has earned an invitation to the 2026 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, a gateway that could see him wear the Team USA uniform in July.

The camp will unfold across two North Carolina towns — Burlington and Danville — where Hooks will join fellow prospects in a series of exhibition games at the end of June, testing his mettle against some of the nation’s top collegiate talent.

A highlight of the schedule is the annual Stars vs. Stripes series in Cary, running from June 30 through July 4, where the young Rebel will face off against a roster of standout players from across the country.

If selected, Hooks would travel with the national squad to Taichung City, Taiwan, for the World Collegiate Baseball Championship from July 11 to 15, a tournament that showcases the best emerging talent on a global stage.

The prospect of joining the team would make him the first Ole Miss player to appear for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team since Jacob Gonzalez and Hunter Elliott in 2022, a milestone that underscores the program’s growing influence.

This season, Hooks has posted a 3‑1 record with seven saves, a 2.22 earned run average, and 58 strikeouts over 52.2 innings, numbers that have helped him lead the SEC in ERA, WHIP and appearances during conference play.

He has solidified his role as the Rebels’ reliable arm in high‑leverage situations, converting six of his last seven save opportunities and allowing just five earned runs across his most recent 14 outings.

Coach Mike Bianco has praised Hooks’ composure under pressure, noting that his ability to limit walks — just six in league games — and maintain a strikeout‑to‑walk ratio of 6.00 reflects a maturity beyond his class.

With the camp’s roster still in flux, Hooks’ performance in the upcoming exhibition contests could tip the scales toward a final selection on July 5, a date that will set the stage for what many expect to be a breakthrough summer.
