Walker Hooks Makes History as Ole Miss' Latest All‑American
Perfect Game unveiled its 2026 College Baseball All‑American teams this week, placing Ole Miss sophomore Walker Hooks on the Second Team. The honor follows a breakout season in which Hooks has emerged as one of the nation’s most reliable relievers.
His placement marks the second consecutive year that at least one Rebel pitcher has earned All‑American recognition, the first time such a streak has occurred since the 2020‑21 campaign. It also makes Hooks the first Ole Miss player named an All‑American by Perfect Game since Parker Caracci in 2018.
A Season Defined by Dominance
Across 55.2 innings this year, Hooks has compiled a 3‑1 record, nine saves and a 2.43 earned‑run average that tops the SEC. His WHIP sits at 0.80, and he has struck out 61 batters while walking just six, yielding a strikeout‑to‑walk ratio of 6.00.
The left‑hander’s nine saves are the most by a Rebel since Brandon Johnson recorded 12 in 2022, and his recent stretch has been equally impressive — he has converted eight of his last nine save opportunities and allowed only four earned runs over seven appearances.
Coach Mike Bianco praised Hooks’ composure on the mound, noting that the pitcher’s ability to handle high‑leverage situations has been a cornerstone of the team’s late‑season surge. “Walker’s poise and command are exactly what you want from a closer,” Bianco said.
