The Wilson Warbirds have taken to the road this week, lining up against the Fredericksburg Nationals for a series that will run all the way through the weekend. The schedule marks the first full week of summer when American Legion and Little League baseball dominate the local sports calendar.
Regional Little League Action
Wilson City’s Little League All‑Stars in the 8‑10 age group opened play on Monday night at eight o’clock on Field No. 1 at the Gillette Baseball Complex. The winners‑bracket semifinals pit the Wilson County Little League (WCLL) team, now 2‑0, against Johnston County Gold, with the victor advancing to Wednesday’s winners‑bracket final against either South Durham Green or the Super Optimist squad from Wilmington. Should Wilson drop the Monday contest, an elimination game awaits on Tuesday evening at the same hour.
The tournament’s age‑specific brackets extend through the week, with the 10‑12 division slated to begin Friday and feature three contests, including a Wilson versus Supper Optimist matchup at eight p.m. on Field No. 2. Meanwhile, the 9‑11 division will open Friday with two games, but Wilson will sit out the early round and await the winner of the Supper‑Johnston County clash for a 10 a.m. Saturday showdown on the same field. Both higher‑age tournaments are projected to run through Saturday, July 2, should they require additional games.
Postseason Seeding Battles
For the senior Post 13 squad, a three‑game series against Wayne County Post 11 will determine postseason seeding and the eventual playoff opponent. The series includes home games at Fleming on Tuesday and a rematch on July 1, while the final regular‑season encounter is scheduled for Friday at C.B. Aycock High. Wilson will also travel to SouthWest Edgecombe High on Wednesday to face Edgecombe County Post 19 and host that same opponent on Saturday at Fleming.
The Post 13 juniors are set for a doubleheader at home against Cary Post 67 on Friday at Fleming, followed by a road trip to Raleigh Post 157 for the regular‑season finale on July 1. These fixtures round out a busy schedule that blends tournament play, seeding battles and preparation for the upcoming playoffs.
