The ninth annual Warhawk Basketball Classic is set to light up the campus of Bluefield State University this Sunday, bringing together a slate of four contests that celebrate the spirit of competition across the Appalachian region.
Honoring a Legacy
The event pays tribute to the Tazewell County High School Warhawks, the last segregated high school in the area, recognizing the historic significance of the program within the community.
More than 40 athletes representing Tazewell, Mercer and McDowell counties will take the court, each wearing the colors of their home communities and vying for bragging rights across state lines.
A Full Day of Competition
Four games are on the schedule: a boys middle‑school matchup, a girls high‑school contest, a boys high‑school showdown, and a men’s exhibition game, promising a varied display of talent.
Doors will swing open at 1 p.m., giving fans a chance to soak in the atmosphere before the first bounce of the ball at 2 p.m.
Local organizers, led by Shake Rag Forever, have coordinated the logistics, ensuring that the day runs smoothly from warm‑up drills to the final buzzer.
The gathering has become more than a sporting event; it is a reunion for alumni, a showcase for emerging talent, and a reminder of the region’s deep basketball roots.
