Senior Leadership Shapes Defensive Strategy
The Brainerd Warriors girls' soccer squad is back in action with a fortified defensive line that features four senior stalwarts. Their experience and chemistry are expected to provide stability after a season that ended with a 13‑5 record and a narrow loss in the Section 8‑3A Semifinals.
Kahlan Johnson, a state track athlete, brings speed and sharp decision‑making to the back line, while also offering the ability to launch attacks from various positions. Ellen Germundson’s versatility and strong communication skills allow her to adapt across the defense, and Sophia Lundy, who transitioned from midfield, now anchors the line with poise. Claire Lust adds depth and a steady presence that complements the group.
Goalkeeper Grace Fredrickson, who broke into the starting lineup as a freshman, is expected to command the defense with her leadership and steady presence between the posts. Her early‑season experience should help organize the back line and mentor younger players.
Twin scorers Macy and Quinn Carlson, who were key contributors last season, will look to add more goals and assists as the team builds on its offensive depth while focusing on defensive solidity.
The upcoming schedule, which includes contests against Bemidji, Sartell and other strong opponents, offers the Warriors a chance to test their depth early. The coaching staff hopes the early‑season games will help fine‑tune the defense before aiming for a top‑four conference placement and the opportunity to host a section game.
