The Washington and Lee University baseball squad has once again been honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Excellence Award, marking the second straight year the team has received this distinction.
The ABCA recognized nearly 500 college programs and more than 320 high school teams that posted a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher, underscoring a growing emphasis on academic performance across the sport.
Academic Excellence and Athletic Performance
During the recent season the Generals compiled a 21‑14‑1 record, going 10‑9‑1 within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, a conference of which Washington and Lee is one of only four institutions to earn the academic honor.
Individual accolades followed, with five players — Brody Pasieka, Cooper Charneco, Henry Steene, Nathan DeWitte and Camdyn Teague — named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Team, while 27 of the 30 roster members earned All‑ODAC honors.
Alex Caywood stood out by being selected D3baseball.com’s Region 6 Rookie of the Year and by capturing both All‑ODAC and All‑Region commendations, as well as ABCA All‑Region recognition.
Beyond the diamond, the university, founded in 1749 and consistently ranked among the nation’s top liberal‑arts colleges, supports over 500 student‑athletes across 24 varsity sports and has celebrated more than 265 conference championships, illustrating how academic rigor and athletic ambition can coexist.
