A Historic Return to the Capital
The 2026 National Women’s Soccer League Championship will unfold at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, November 21, at 8 p.m., bringing the league’s culminating showdown to the nation’s capital for the second time.
The decision follows the capital’s successful hosting of the 2022 championship, where the Portland Thorns defeated the Kansas City Current 2‑0 in front of a passionate crowd.
NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman praised the city’s engaged fan base and the vibrant soccer culture that has developed around Audi Field, noting that the capital’s community support makes it a natural fit for the league’s marquee event.
The match will be broadcast live on CBS and is backed by a sponsorship from Google Pixel, a partnership that reflects the growing intersection of technology and women’s sports.
Kim Stone, CEO of the Washington Spirit, highlighted the city’s passionate supporters, while Danita Johnson, President of Business Operations for D.C. United and Audi Field, emphasized the venue’s role as a hub for community events and cultural gatherings.
Eight teams will qualify for the NWSL Playoffs, with opening matches scheduled from November 6‑8, semifinals on November 13‑15, before the championship final.
Community Impact and Soccer Culture
Beyond the game, the championship underscores Washington, D.C.’s broader ambition to become a permanent fixture in the international women’s soccer calendar, leveraging its historic venues and diverse fan base to foster the sport’s growth.
